84 families living in a residential building were evacuated after the structure developed cracks on Saturday, civic sources said.
Chief of the Disaster Control Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Santosh Kadam, said that some people spotted that the 19-year-old 'Sudarshan Apartment' located near the corporation building, had developed cracks and thus posed a danger for the residents.
The civic authorities were immediately alerted about it.
"After getting the information, the Disaster Control Cell officials and fire services sprang into action and immediately evacuated the residents of 'Sudarshan' as well as the adjoining 'Tejadeep' apartment," civic officials said.
The evacuated residents were moved to the transit homes, they added.
