The Government Printing Office (GPO) announced on October 18 that it plans to award a sole source contract to Luminescence International, a security ink manufacturer located in the UK, to provide security threads and inks for the GPO’s production of electronic passports.
More specifically, the inks and threads will be used by GPO’s Secure Credential Center to produce what are called Security and Intelligent Documents (SIDS), theannouncement explains.
“Formed in 1987, Luminescence, manufactures high quality, custom-made security inks for value documents that are extremely difficult to recreate or replicate either by criminals or competitors,” says the company on its own Web site. “Still owned and operated in the UK by the original founding family, we have grown over 25 years to become a producer of inks used to print billions of documents and products globally each year and we offer the very latest in security ink technological development.”
