The Allahabad Congress on Tuesday passed a resolution demanding that Priyanka Gandhi should contest polls from Phulpur, which was once the constituency of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The Allahabad Congress has forwarded the resolution to the party President Sonia Gandhi. 'Indira lao desh bachao (bring Indira and save the country)' and 'Bring Sonia, save Congress' slogans have been common in a party which is hinging on Gandhi charisma. However, sources in the Congress have said that the party wants to use its last trump card closer to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and surprise its opponents. The demand for Priyanka is not just sycophancy but also the real politics as she could be a strong match to the BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Unlike Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka comes across as very tough and no nonsense persona - similar to that of Modi. She is a mix of Sonia's compromise style and Rahul's no-nonsense style. Unlike Rahul, she is a good communicator and media savvy, much like Modi. However, her husband Robert Vadra's controversy could cast a shadow on her prospects. Priyanka's recent tryst with aggressive campaigning during Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls was disappointing. She was unable to win seats for the Congress in Amethi and Raebareli, which could raise questions about her future in the party. Sources have said that the Congress is watching Modi and his impact closely and if his magic doesn't wane, the party may be forced to unleash the Priyanka charisma.
