Man gets 7-yr jail for raping maid
NEW DELHI: A trial court has sentenced a man to seven years in jail for raping a maid in 2010. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on 23-year-old Pramod, who is from Madhubani inBihar, while calling the offence grave.
Both Pramod and the woman were employed at the same house. "It has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed rapeupon the prosecutrix," additional sessions judge Kaveri Baweja said.
While noting that the accused could not afford to pay the victim compensation, the court recommended adequate compensation for the victim.
In her complaint, the woman had said Pramod raped her at the central Delhi house where they were employed. The victim, who is from Jharkhand, started working at the house a month before the incident. A complaint was lodged on October 17, 2010 after she informed her sister and employer, police said.
Police said a non-bailable warrant was issued against Pramod after he evaded arrest. He was also declared a proclaimed offender. Pramod surrendered before the court on November 30, 2011.
During the trial, Pramod claimed he was being falsely implicated. The judge, however, convicted him for the offence saying the prosecution has been able to prove that he had raped the girl.
